Based on government resolution 1422/2018. (IX.7.), EMIH is given an important role in finalizing the exhibition concept of the House of Fates museum and in accomplishing the tasks necessary for opening the museum.
EMIH engages experts who create a new exhibition concept.
The design is presented to the Prime Minister’s Office, and in March, a written confirmation is received that the development of the exhibition can proceed according to this concept.
EMIH funds the Hungarian Holocaust Research and Education Centre (Magyar Holokauszt Kutató és Oktatási Központ (MHKOK)) to develop the exhibition and then maintain it and to hire several internationally acclaimed historians, curators and museum developers.
The MHKOK team goes on a tour of museums in the USA to learn about Holocaust and World War II museum trends and to see how the House of Fates could provide something new.
.
The Basic Feasibility Study of the House of Fates exhibition design is completed.
MHKOK and Gallagher & Associates start working on the design concept of the exhibition.
MHKOK begins recording personal interviews for the exhibition. To this date, almost 150 life interviews have been conducted with Holocaust survivors and their rescuers.
MHKOK purchases an almost 20,000-piece collection consisting of artifacts and documents.
The completed design concept is presented to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Minister Gergely Gulyás indicates that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum opening will be delayed, but the government will contribute HUF 200 million for continued research and exhibition development.
The design for the 72 stations of the exhibition timeline is completed. Ten international and Hungarian experts are requested to review and comment on the design, thus assisting in the final implementation.
The expert opinions are received, and based on these, revision of the design concept begins.
In memory of the liberation of the Budapest Ghetto, 77 short versions of the personal interviews produced for the House of Fates exhibition are made public on the emlekezes77.hu website
